A certain juvenile delinquent has been causing quite the fuss.
Rest assured if they visit this house, they will be in for a surprise.

I'm your host, Leo D. Cook, and welcome to "Masterpieces of Children's Literature in Less Than a Minute."
Do you know what this is?
This is my rubber ducky named Squeaky.
[ Squeaking ] Today's book is also about a duck, and it's titled, "The Ugly Duckling" by the Danish author, Hans Christian Andersen.
It was published in 1844, and it's been adapted into musicals, cartoons, and even an opera.
Now, you know, a lot of people ask me if I sing opera.
[ Clearing throat ] ♪ Noooooooo Now, this story is unusual because it's not based on folklore or even a fairy tale.
So, my friends, without further a-duck -- I mean ado, I present to you "The Ugly Duckling."
♪ Old MacDonald had a farm >> Hey, everybody!
What's quack-a-lacking?
>> Moo!
What's the big idea?
>> Oink.
Who do you think you are?
>> It's in baaaaad taste quacking like that.
>> I just wanted to say hello.
>> And we're just getting to the best part of the song.
>> Yeah!
E-i-e-i-o part.
>> I just love to sing!

♪ On top of spaghetti >> No!
>> Buzz off!
>> What am I, a bee?
>> No.
You are a duck, and an ugly one as well.
>> Why don't you on top of Spa-get-i outta here.
>> I will!

>> Well, hello there, cat.
How are you?
>> Meow, there duck.
You just interrupted my cat nap.
Where are you going?
>> I'm just looking for a pond to go for a swim.
>> That would be a catastrophe!
You are so ugly, you will scare the catfish.
>> You are not a cool cat.
So I'm gonna duck out.
>> So the little duck continues walking until he finds a pond.
Then something remarkable happens.

♪ "Friday Zone" Friday ♪ >> And now, a story from the WTIU Kids Writers Contest.
>> One day, a boy was having a birthday party.
He and his friends were having a blast.
One of his friends said, hey, I know what we should do first.
Let's go bust the pinata.
Good idea said the boy.
After they were done with the pinata, they decided to open presents.
First, the boy got a bike.
Then a toy truck.
After that, they played some games.
They played tag and many others.
They decided to have cake.
His mom wanted to cut the cake, but the boy insisted that he should do it.
The boy got the knife.
The first piece was for him.
The next piece was for one of his friends.
As Heath was starting to cut the next piece, he felt the cake moving and moving, more and more.
Finally, it exploded with confetti.
There was cake everywhere, especially on the boy.
[ Cheers ] The boy decided this was the best party ever!
The next day at school, he told everyone all about it.
They thought it was the best thing they ever heard.

♪ In the "Friday Zone" Friday ♪ >> Let's search up some more fun on the "Friday Zone."
♪ >> Victoria is here to show us how to make a caterpillar friend out of pom-poms and pipe cleaners.
We're going to need pipe cleaners, a jumbo popsicle stick, pom-poms, goggly eyes, scissors and glue.
First, cut four equal pieces of pipe cleaner.
Wrap the pieces around another pipe cleaner.
Bend and twist them until they look like little legs.
Glue your pipe cleaner on to your popsicle stick and cut off the excess.
Now pick out your pom-poms.
Glue these on top of your pipe cleaner legs to create your caterpillar.
Finally, glue on some goggly eyes.
Wait for your creation to dry, and you have your very own caterpillar to play with.

What's going on?
>> Hi, Maya.
How are you today?
>> I'm great.
How are you?
>> We're having a lot of fun here at the children's museum.
Hey, there's something that we did recently that I want to share with you.
>> Really?
Oh, my gosh, what is it?
>> It's an experiment that we did outside with Mentos and Coke, and a bunch of other pops.
>> Oh, my gosh.
>> All right.
We're here to do our Mentos and soda challenge.
And we might be taking it up a notch.
With me, my friends Drew, Mason, Macy, and Maddie.
And we're all going to pick a soda.
And because we're scientists, we're going to record what we picked, and why, and then look back at the results later on and compare.
So Maddie, I need you to do the recording.
Good deal?
All right.
All right, Drew, you are first up.
Which soda do you want to pick?
>> Coke.
>> Is that Coke?
>> Diet Coke.
>> Diet Coke.
>> Why do you want to pick that one?
>> Because I like Coke.
Diet Coke.
[ Laughter ] >> And Mason, what have you got?
>> I want Sam's Diet Cola because I think it will work almost the same as the Diet Coke, which is probably the trend you saw on, like, YouTube and social media.
>> Oh, you've already done some research, hmm?
>> Yeah.
>> Interesting.
Macy, what have you got?
>> I'm gonna pick Mountain Dew for two reasons.
One, this one is the only one that's like a different color.
So I thought that might, like, play a role in it.
>> Hmm.
Interesting.
>> And also, because I don't like any soda, but one time I tried some, like, red 4th of July Mountain Dew or something, and I thought it was pretty good.
So -- >> So you think your personal taste buds have something to do with whether or not it's going to be good?
>> Possibly, yeah.
>> Interesting.
Okay.
And Maddie?
>> So I'm going to take Dr. Pepper.
I immediately thought I was going to take Diet Pepsi, but I ended up taking Dr. Pepper because this is the only one that has sugar in it, like, actual sugar in it.
>> Really?
You think that's going to make a difference?
>> I don't know if that makes a difference, but it might.
>> Okay.
>> And you are recording all these?
>> Yes.
[ Laughter ] >> Come on, we're scientists!
>> Okay.
Um.
[ Laughter ] ♪ >> Now, we're going to use tape to get our Mentos in the soda, and our control is going to be that everybody is going to use three Mentos to get in.
That way we can really decide whose is better.
Are you guys ready?
>> Mm-hmm.
>> Let's see!
♪ >> Whoa!
♪ >> You're getting it on your pants.
♪ >> It already worked!
♪ >> All right, number 9, are you ready?
>> Yep.
♪ >> Test number three.
Are you marking this down?
>> Yep.
♪ >> Oh, man, it's not that high.
>> Macy's actually worked!
>> Macy, you might want to take a drink.
♪ >> All right, last one.
♪ >> This is the Dr. Pepper.
Are you ready?
Three Mentos.
♪ >> Whoa!
That's the highest!
>> That's the highest.
♪ >> Hey!
>> Dr. Pepper is my jam!
I need to drink that!
>> All right.
We're back with our results.
What did we think was going to happen?
>> So I thought that the Dr. Pepper was going to go the highest because it was the only one that was, like, cola, like was brown colored, I guess, and also had sugar in it, actual sugar.
So that was my hypothesis.
And we thought that the Mountain Dew was going to go the least high, because it's not a typical cola.
>> Yes, these two in the middle were versions of a diet brown cola.
And the results were -- >> We tied.
>> Dr. Pepper was the highest.
The two versions of diet were really close.
Maybe a slight edge to Diet Coke over the Sam's Choice Diet, but really close.
And -- >> Mountain Dew was the lowest.
>> Do you guys really think the carmel color has something to do with it?
>> Yeah, possible.
>> It must.
All right.
Do you guys want to try something really cool?
>> Yeah!
>> All right.
For part of our master plan, we're going to try drilling holes in the top of our caps.
And then taking our Mentos on our tape and sliding it through.
So when we put it on there, we can just drop 'em down in.
And we think that the smaller holes in the caps will make our soda skyrocket, go even faster and farther up in the air.
♪ >> Do you understand?
You can't drop it.
>> So you can't drop it yet.
>> Are you going to say, three, two, one?
>> Go.
Twist it tight.
Now put your -- >> Ahhhh!
♪ >> Can we run through?
>> Whoa!
Look at mine!
>> Yours went the highest.
Mine!
Diet Pepsi!
>> What is that?
>> That looks like so much fun!
>> It was!
And do you know what, we asked people to send in videos of them trying the experiment at home, and we have some of those for you too.
>> Oh, my gosh!
That's awesome.
>> Hey, welcome back to another edition of the Mentos and soda challenge.
My quarantine hair could use some work.
We're on day five, six, 22 of the Mentos and soda challenge, and the videos from you are still coming in.
We got two more great ones today.
The first up, the Leslie boys.
I think I want to go hang out with them.
>> Oh!
♪ >> Oh, my gosh!
[ Laughter ] ♪ >> Luca, are you ready?
♪ >> It's not going in!
♪ >> Put the Mentos, all the Mentos in.
>> That's wrap!
♪ >> I know who I want to sit with at the lunch table.
The Leslie boys, they got it going on.
They got it all lined up, and then at the end, they're shaking their things and they're spraying them everywhere.
That's a good time with the Leslie boys.

So this one is diet, and we're going to try both.
That one is diet, and this one is regular.

I loved the old man.

I think it was his eye.
Yes, it was this.
He had the eye of a vulture!
A pale, blue eye, with a film over it.
Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold.
And so by degrees, very gradually, I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever.

And when the lantern falls upon the old man's wide open eye, it gives Zarg the chills every time!
>> Who is telling the story?
>> I'm sorry, Peggy girl.
Zarg is just so excited!
>> Try to keep it to a low growl.
>> Okay, Peggy.
>> Now, this is the point you fancy me mad.
Mad men know nothing, but you should have seen me.
You should have seen how wisely I proceeded, with what caution, with what foresight, with what dissimulation, I went to work.
I was never kinder to the old man than during the whole week before I killed him.
[ Devilish laughter ] >> Oh, boy.
♪ >> Welcome to animal yoga.
My name is Priscilla, and I'm here to practice yoga together with you.
Let's take a deep belly breath in and check, how are we feeling in this very moment?
[ Deep breath ] Now, bring our hands in front of our hearts.
Namaste.
Ready to begin?
♪ Today, we are going to be in the deep ocean.
Oceans are so calming, and we feel like that moving and waves.
So let's try to make the sound of the ocean, because it's a way for us to calm down when we need to.
So pretend that you have a window in front of you, and you're going to fog this window.
So you do like this, right?
Can you do that?
Okay.
So now we're going to do that with our mouths closed.
Try to do that with your nose.
Can you try to keep breathing that way with that sound in the back of your throat.
[ Breathing ] Okay.
So now we are going to lie down on our backs, and we're going to bring our legs and our arms really long on top of us, like this.
Really long.
And we are going to float like jellyfish.
Beautiful, transparent animals, and you can make circles inside the deep water.
Imagine the color of your jellyfish.
Sometimes the jellyfish is transparent too.
You can rest your head down on the mat and be really relaxed.
Now we're going to take a deep breath in, and we are going to open our legs and arms like a five-pointed star.
A pointed star.
Like a starfish.
And then you are going to breathe out.
And breathing in.
Beautiful, calming starfish.
And breathing out.
Now we can hold our knees on our chest and bring our head to the knees.
And we are going to rest as seashells.
Take a deep breath in and out.

This is how you play it.
You put your egg down here on a block or on a flat surface.
Then you put a plastic cup over it.
What we're going to do is take turns hitting the top of it, and we're going to try and trick each other to hitting the egg.
What you do is you go back and forth, and then somebody grabs it and then somebody smashes the egg.
>> Okay.
