By now you may be wondering why I have this metal bowl on my head.
This is a tribute to today's book which has a character that also sports a metal bowl for a helmet.
It's entitled, "Don Quixote of La Mancha" by Miguel de Cervantes.
Quixote is spelled q-u-i-x-o-t-e.
This was published in 1605, and many folks consider this very old and long book written in Spanish to be the foundation of modern literature.
Now, turn that frown-dation upside down-nation, because I'm going to tell you about an interesting but confused fella named Don Quixote who gets in all kinds of crazy mishaps that he brings on himself.
You may even call this book, what the darn Quixote!
Now, Don Quixote is an older man who is still a dreamer, and a veracious reader, especially about books concerning knights and their adventures.
One day he becomes sick, which affects him so much that he believes himself to be a knight.
He finds a rusty, beat up suit of armor, and an old nag of a horse and decides to go on various adventures.
Along the way, he acquires a squire named Sancho Panza, a lovable, well-meaning loyal person who is about as smart as a box of rocks.
[ Clanging on the floor ] They have many misadventures together with Panza getting the short end of the stick.
One of these is when Quixote gets confused and thinks windmills to be giants, and decides to battle them.
>> Oh, my gosh, it's a giant!
Charge!
>> This goes about as well as you could expect with Quixote getting clobbered, but still sticking to his beliefs of leading a noble and virtuous life.
Oh, one of the most famous quotes from Don Quixote is "proof is in the pudding."
Now, I like pudding, and if you want to know more about "Don Quixote of La Mancha" by Miguel de Cervantes, I suggest you read it yourself.
I'm Leo D. Cook, and I will see you next time on "Masterpieces of Children's Literature in Less Than a Minute."
